Even better is the launch of a brand new console with the Nintendo Switch and all the hype that surrounds it. Whatever type of fan you are for this genre, there's a lot to get excited about.

That includes both high-profile releases like Horizon Zero Dawn and Persona 5 to smaller but still important titles like Nier Automata and Nioh - with everything in between. Many important titles have either been announced for the new year or slipped into it for one reason or another.

2017 is already a far more impressive-looking year than 2016 was (in many respects, and we hope it stays that way).
